Workers Memorial Day is observed annually on April 28, commemorating the enactment of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), which affirms every worker's fundamental right to a safe workplace.
This legislation was established through the relentless efforts of the labor movement, advocating for improved working conditions and governmental action to safeguard workers.
This day serves both to honor those we've lost and as a call to action to continue the fight for workplace safety. Unions nationwide gather to pay tribute to every worker who has died due to workplace injuries or illnesses.
On Tuesday, April 28, 2025, the Oregon Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, will honor the 38 workers from across the state who lost their lives while performing their jobs in 2025. We invite you to join us for the Portland event at 9am at the Eastbank Esplanade beside Portland Fire and Rescue Station 21.
